FOUR men and a woman have been charged over the assault on three Sydney police officers who were treated in hospital for their injuries.
Police were called to a house in Bowood Place, St Marys, at about 1.50am (AEDT) today after reports of people fighting at an 18th birthday party.
When the police arrived the hosts of the party asked them to help evict those who were fighting. The officers were attacked as they attempted to carry out the evictions with a policeman suffering a broken nose and a female officer sustaining head injuries and concussion. Another male officer suffered back injuries.
Five males aged in their late teens to their early 40s and a 46-year-old woman were arrested. They were charged with various offences that included affray and assaulting police.
Four of the men and the woman were granted conditional bail and ordered to appear in court over dates in January and February.
A 25-year-old male was refused bail and ordered to appear in Parramatta Local Court later today.
The three officers were taken to Nepean Hospital for treatmentbefore being released.
They will require ongoing treatment and have been placed on sick leave until further notice.
